Disposable Camera Family Project
2021
I sent my sister’s family and my parents disposable cameras and requested they take one photo (no reshoots!) of the people, places and things that were meaningful to them. Disposable cameras were chosen specifically so that people could not review the photo to reframe or improve it, and to limit the number of frames they could take. The purpose of the disposable camera project is to consider each shot and make it count, to document meaning, to make strong choices about what to include and what to exclude. Photographers were then asked to caption their photos.

You wouldn't know it but this is my old friend Cici Fougner Hunt and me! In order to be safe from COVID, you wouldn't hug someone unless they were in your household. I had heard of people wearing their masks and wrapping themselves up in blankets and hugging. Cici drove up from the South Shore with her lunch and her blanket. We hugged for a very long time. It was wonderful!

American Gothic Dave and Deedee Roberts version. These two are simply the best - always hard at work on a project or helping a friend, excellent listeners and so full of love! I couldn't ask for better parents:)

Self Covid Portrait. Mask wearing was a reality. I may have been getting ready to go out and I was inspired to document the moment.

Market Basket is my home away from home. This was taken during the pandemic when I would buy groceries for a full week. Lots of meal planning went into those bags!

Buster on his bed with one of his favorite type of toy: a ball. He doesn't get tired of playing with his balls. He's always bugging us to play ball with him and it gets worse when company comes over He spends most of his day on the bed. I think we moved this plant just for this photo. It hasn't been doing too well. It's now in the corner.

My pandemic pod early on consisted of consistent Friday night Happy Hours with Adam and Jesse on Jesse’s roof. It was really the only time I would walk out of my neighborhood and see how desolate the rest of the city was. Super thankful for the consistency of in-person contact from these friends. We would bring food that was either easy to share or individually wrapped. Off to the right, I remember seeing other friend groups meet for socially-distanced outdoor meetings.

My hair is message and unkempt, still though the pure bliss on my face is evident.

We were "this" close. I'm angry with COVID for very many things, but especially for failing to slay this dragon. The medical staff at Walter Reed did their jobs too well, leading to the immiseration of millions...and shattering my belief in poetic justice!

This is my OG (Original Gangster) friend group from 4th and 5th grade. The picture was taken at my 12th birthday party and it was such a fun night. We put on fake mustaches later :)
I Took This Photo
2006
I sent home a package with disposable cameras for the whole family. The instructions were to photograph the people, places, and things that were meaningful to them. Across the country in San Francisco, I participated as well. Each photographer captioned their photos.
